• You will learn how to read, write, and speak everyday English, not academic English.

• You will learn American culture to help you succeed in living in the United States.

• If you want to, you will learn about Christianity.

• You will learn about the lives of other ESL students, like yourself, at our social activities.

• Anyone who is 18 years old and older can register for ESL classes.

• Anyone younger than 18 can receive ESL instruction from their elementary school or high school.

• Most classes take place in person at Christ Community Church of Milpitas.

• Some classes take place online via Zoom.

• There is no graduation from ESL classes. Also, ESL classes in C3 are noncredit classes.

• However, as your English improves, you will have the opportunity to switch to higher level classes.

• The higher-level classes will help you continue to learn English and American culture.

• You can continue to attend any ESL class as long as you like and as long as you think you are learning.

• Students who stop taking ESL classes can come to the social activities to be with their former teachers and classmates.

• Registration:

• $50 per year for the registration fee

• $30 for spring semester (January through July)

• $20 for fall semester (mid-August to December)

• There is no tuition.

• If you take ONLY ESL Bible classes, you pay nothing.

This would be a special situation, and you should contact the ESL Ministry Coordinator.

Our ESL is an ongoing program. Spring semester starts in January. Fall semester starts in mid-August.

However, you can begin attending classes at any time after you complete the registration and enrollment process.

For your benefit, you can start and stop attending classes at any time during the year. Also, there no waiting list.

You can enroll in the ESL program online or in person:

1. Online–Go to the ESL website.

In the box that says “COST”, click on the link that says “Online registration here”.

You will be asked to create an account.

Next, when you log into your new account, you will be asked some questions to complete the registration.

Once registered online, you will receive an email regarding the oral and written tests. Please reply to the email to tell us if you want to take these test on-campus or online. These tests will help determine which classes are best fitted for you. They will take about 30 minutes.

2. Inperson–Come to Christ Community Church of Milpitas to register for the program and take your English oral and written tests. Go to the ESL website for the registration schedule and location.

3. Lastly, you will be asked to pay the ESL registration fee. You can pay it online or you can try the classes for a week and pay the fee to your ESL teacher if you decide to study with us.

Classes lasts between 45 minutes and 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Registration – Every student that registers for the ESL program in person or online is given short oral and written English tests. These tests are given for 2 reasons:

1. To determine which class or classes is best fitted for the student.

2. To help the student see how their English has improved if they take the tests again later.

During classes – Usually there are no quizzes or tests given in the classes. Some quizzes

might be given by teachers to help students find out how well they are learning. However, there are no grades given in any class and there is no course transcript given in the ESL program. Therefore, there are no tests given for grades.

What are the requirements to graduate?

There is no graduation from the ESL program. Therefore, there are no requirements to graduate from any class or from the entire ESL program.

If a student wants to change to a different class, they simply talk to their current teacher and ask for help to move to a new class.

Also, there are no grades given or transcripts provided for students in the ESL program.

Lastly, all classes are noncredit courses.

• Many of the classes have materials provided by teachers free of charge.

• However, some classes use textbooks. You can buy these books online. The classroom has books that you can borrow while in class for a couple of weeks until you get your order.

• Minimum age - Unless you receive special permission, you should be 18 years old or older to register for the ESL program. Anyone younger than 18 can receive ESL instruction from their elementary school or high school.

• Maximum age - There is no maximum age.
